We have been married for 3 years and up until April we had never been on a road trip together.

In March we flew out to New York City and planned on renting a car to explore all of the Upper East Coast. Excited was an understatement and I was nerdisly excited about a gas station called WaWa. To my husbands dismay he couldn’t figure out for the life of him of all things why I would be so thrilled about a gas station. Both of us where excited but nervous at the same time, a road trip is an amazing experience I believe that all couples should experience at some point in life. Which is why I’m sharing our road trip with you all! Including all the places we checked out, the highlight of our trip and our advice!!

Upon arriving to New York City I was in aw of everything! The Big Apple (a statement I can finally say I understand) every where I looked there was something going on. There is a crazy amount of people and traffic which is another story for another time. We checked into our hotel in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, upon arriving to The W New York I was quite impressed.Everything from the lobby to our room was set up so nicely. The W New York has such a modern chic feel to it, which I love! We were directly in the heart of Union Square making it extremely convenient to get around pretty much everywhere.

We dropped off our luggage and headed out to explore all of New York!

Places I recommended seeing in NY!

  • Times Square
  • Central Park
  • New York Slice of PIZZA (there is pizza and starbucks literally on every corner, we stopped at Rockafella Pizza (whom quite a few local directed us to)
  • Trinity Church is beyond amazing and stunningly beautiful inside and outside
  • Rockfella Center
  • The Hala Guys (seriously this is amazing and started in New York)
  • Queens
  • The Brooklyn Bridge

There is literally so much to do in New York and we had a great time exploring! And ended most of nights back in our hotel room beat from all the walking and just site seeing! The shopping was insane, and so many amazing stores!!! We definitely cant wait to go back and dive deeper into all of New York!

Next we headed to Connecticut!!! Stopping in New Haven (I finally made it to Yale see Mom & Dad)

We drove through quite a bit of Connecticut, the state is pretty easy to get through!!! New Haven is a great little college town and the people are so friendly!! Pizza everywhere so all my pizza lovers this is a staple spot for you!

Headed next to Providence, Rhode Island!

Providence is such a cute little town with the cutest shops and some amazing seafood!!! I would suggest staying in Boston and driving down and spending the day in Providence! It would also make for the perfect girls weekend trip!!! We had so much fun shopping and enjoying happy hour right on the water front! We enjoyed some amazing Oysters (some of the best I’ve ever had)!!!

  • The Providence Oyster Bar I highly recommended stopping here! They have a great happy hour menu with $1 oysters and the Wassabi Calamari and the Buffalo Scallops are a must try!!! They have amazing mussels in a white wine broth!!!
  • Providence Neighbor hood
  • Federal Hill

We drove up next to Boston, Massachusetts!!!

I love Boston and if you have never been before, you are missing out! This is something to add to your bucket list! Just like New York, there is so much to do in Boston and so much history to see!!! We stopped at the Boston Sam Adams Brewery (The hubs loves a good brewery) and a got a tour of the facility and sampled some really good beers!!! We stayed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, which is a extremely nice and luxurious hotel in an old historic building! It’s such a charming hotel and the location is awesome! I would highly recommended staying here, as you will totally get your moneys worth! We explored Boston and enjoyed some really amazing food! I found myself loving Massachusetts over all, who knows maybe we live there one day!!!

We drove to Portland, Maine for the lobsters!!!

In all seriousness we literally drove to Portland for lobster rolls, which was completely different from what I thought it was going to be! Portland was very unique and interesting in its own way!!! Lovers of all things seafood we were excited about trying a lobster roll and enjoying what Maine had to offer! We stopped at Susan’s Fish-N-Chips to have lunch, which definitely was a local establishment and was super cool to see!

From here we headed to Woodstock (Vermont is such a gorgeous state and would be the perfect winter retreat location),then back down to New Jersey stopping along the way in Manchester to enjoy some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream! Our hotels were amazing and always so nice!!! The food was incredible and the site seeing was unbelievable!

Staying in Cherry Hill, NJ we were able to hop over to Philly quickly and enjoy some classical Philly Cheese steak sandwich’s!!!

We have been to Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C and surrounding areas before but one thing we have learned is that these places always offer something new and something exciting!!! That’ s one of the best parts about traveling somewhere you’ve already seen, because you know you haven’t seen it all and there is so much out there!

After spending some time in Philly and NJ we headed down to Dover, Delaware (which is a pretty small town) We then headed to Maryland to see family and to spend the remaining of the trip with them exploring more of the D.C area.

I’ve mapped out above our whole trip, for you to see where we all headed to!! I can’t wait to go back again and explore more areas!

As a married couple on their first road trip together we learned so much!!!

I would say we learned how to communicate better throughout our trip, and as you’ve heard several times communication is key to any good relationship! I had always thought we had communicated good but after our road trip together we learned a whole new way of communicating !!!

We grew so much closer as a couple!!!

I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in life, someone who I enjoy traveling the world with and who is always so positive in life! I feel more and more blessed each day! I can’t wait for us to take another road trip together and for our next first!! We highly recommended that couples take at least one road trip together ,even if its a shorter amount of time!!!! You truly gain a new understanding of each other and grow closer to your spouses afterwards.

Thanks for stopping by!!! I hope you have a fun trip planned and would love to share more about our trip if you have any questions!! I can’t stress enough how much fun this was and how blessed we truly are!!!
